KZN Midlands
Shafton Airfield is the main aviation base for all aerial support services provided in the KZN Midlands. There are two satellite airbases located at Riverdale, outside Richmond and Weza, outside Harding.
Subject to weather conditions, the following aircraft will be available for the 2023 fire season over the period 01 June to 31 October.
Shafton:
- 4 x SEAT's
- 1 x Bell 205 (UH1) Chopper
- 3 x Cessna 182 Spotter
Riverdale:
- 2 x SEAT's
- 1 x Cessna 182 Spotter aircraft
Weza:
- 1x Helicopter (1100 lt Bambi capacity)
Dispatch & Co-ordination
- All dispatch and co-ordination of aircraft is done at the Shafton Operations / Control Room: Contact 033-330 8421/ 0861 KZN FPA.
Operational costs
Fixed wing aircraft are available to subscribing members on a Pool A and a Pool B basis
IMPORTANT: All aircraft are dispatched on caller pays per hour or part thereof.
KZN Zululand – Coastal
Fosters Airfield is the main aviation base for all aerial support services provided in the Zululand coastal area.
Subject to weather conditions, the following aircraft are available for the 2023 fire season over the period 01July to 31 October.
Kwambonambi:
- 2 x SEAT's
- 1 x Cessna 182 Spotter aircraft
Dispatch & Co-ordination
- All dispatch and co-ordination of aircraft is done at the Zululand Fire Protection Association Control Room: Contact 035 5804 713.
- Fixed wing aircraft are available to subscribing members on a first and second call basis
- IMPORTANT: All aircraft are dispatched on caller pays per hour or part thereof.
- Rates are available from the ZFPA
Operational costs
KZN Zululand – Inland
Merino Airfield, between Melmoth and Eshowe, is the main aviation base for all aerial support services provided in the Zululand inland area.
Subject to weather conditions, the following aircraft are available for the 2023 fire season over the period 01 July to 31 October.
